I'm doing the "export blog" thing on Tumblr and it has taken...at least a week (I have about 38,000 posts roughly) and the program is still running? Is this normal? Is there is an easier way to back up a blog that is easy to understand for a tech idiot?

How big is your blog? I may be able to back it up for you and save the folder to a google drive.

I have it backing up now! I'll send you a message when it's done and we know how big it is, so we can figure out how to send it over to you.

another friend on tumblr told me that it took five days for his blog to get backed up, though it wasn't nearly as large. However, most of that time was waiting in line, essentially. The page with the 'in progress' spinner sat there with 0/howevermany posts transferred for days, and then when it finally went, it went pretty quickly. Mine is still in the queue too, and I hope it fits into the free-account size space. If it doesn't, oh well.

update, I just looked at that tab again and it's beginning to actually import into wordpress, so maybe the queue has gone down a bit since last week. I gather there was a big rush right off, and I held back partly out of inertia, and partly to stay out of the way of people who maybe had reason to know their blog was at risk, and needed to get it backed up pronto.
